Bowie Knife by William Butcher of Sheffield, with sheath
Clip point blade ~8 inches long; knife ~13-1/2 inches long overall.

Ricasso stamped W. BUTCHER / SHEFFIELD. De-capping notch in front of ricasso.

I-shaped (aka dog-bone) handle of dark hardwood (probably rosewood). Bar shield in each side.

Guard, ferrule, cap, tang covering, shields, rivets look to be nickel silver.

Leather covered (or possibly leather bodied) sheath with nickel silver throat and tip. Frog stud missing.

A classic pattern of Sheffield made bowie knife of the 1830s,
dated both by the markings on many examples (not this one, though),
and by the de-capping notch for use on single-shot percussion rifles and pistols.

Condition: Blade looks nearly full, but with many small scratches, scuffs, rust pits, etc. Areas of original crocus finish still visible.
Ricasso has been rubbed or scraped down, obscuring the marking.
    Mounts tarnished, otherwise intact.
Wood checked at the end pins, both sides.
Damage to scabbard body. Frog stud missing.
