2 c1860s SHEFFIELD HORN WHITTLERS: H.H. TAYLOR, F. WARD



Two Whittlers. From a consigned collection.

Two classic Sheffield-made whittlers, intended for the American market, made by Frederick Ward & Co. and H. H. Taylor (& Brother).

Upscale export patterns. Both knives date c1850s-1880s.





1. Swell-center balloon whittler, 3-3/4 inches long closed.
Tang stamps: B4 * ANY/ F. WARD & CO./ CUTLERY/ SHEFFIELD on all three blades.
"Square" (flat) construction. Horn handles, nickel silver bolsters, pins, & bar shield. Brass liners & wedge.
Blades are moderately sharpened, with good action. Half stops on pen blades.


2. Oval or Anglo-Saxon whittler, 3-1/2 inches long closed.
Tang stamps: H. H. TAYLOR/ TIMES WORKS/ SHEFFIELD on the master blade; TAYLOR/ TIMES/ WORKS on the pen and manicure blades.
Horn handles, nickel silver pinched bolsters, pins, & crest shield. Brass liners & wedge.
NOTE: Thin tip of one rear bolster is broken off. Blades are heavily sharpened. Pen blade is lazy; good action on other blades.
